CLYDE LINCOLN PHILLIPS


Clyde Lincoln Phillips
Clyde Lincoln Phillips was born in Rock River, Wisconsin, on March 12, 1899, the son of William Henry and Jessie (Wood) Phillips.

He attended high school in Fond Du Lac and Ripon. The University of Wisconsin granted him his B.S. in 1926 and his M.D. was received from Northwestern University medical school in 1928.

Coming to Hawaii in July, 1928, he served his internship at Queen's Hospital.

Dr. Phillips was acting physician for the Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Co. on Maui in February and March of 1930. From April to October of the same year he served as physician for the Hawaiian Agricultural Co. at Pahala, Hawaii, also as surgeon for the Hakalau Plantation Co., Laupahoehoe Sugar Co. and the Olaa Sugar Co. He entered into private practice in Hilo on October 31, 1931.

Dr. Phillips married Melba Luree Laramore on December 22, 1931 in Honolulu. The couple had three daughters: Janet, Patricia and Nina Jean.

In 1935 Dr. Phillips was a first lieutenant in the National Guard of Hawaii and in 1934 served as surgeon for the Volcano C.C.C. Camp.

Dr. Phillips died May 26, 1953 in Hilo at the age of 54.

He was a member of the Territorial Medical Society, the Hawaii Medical Society of which he was president in 1938 and of Phi Chi Medical Fraternity.
