DUGALD MCDOUGALL

Dr. Dugald McDougall, a native of Arygle, Scotland, arrived in the Islands aboard the "Joseph Albino" outbound from South Australia on September 18, 1849. He was accompanied by his wife; and the shipping manifest gave his age as 32 and that of his wife as 22.

Dr. McDougall settled on Maui in the Makawao district where he was in practice for twenty years. Very little news from the neighboring islands found its way into Honolulu papers of the day, but one of the few references to the doctor came in a terse little announcement of the death of Mary McDougall, aged three days, in December, 1851. This was followed in May 1852, by the notice of the death of a second infant daughter.

Dr. McDougall died at Makawao on October 4, 1869.
