LYLE BACHMAN


Lyle Bachman was born on March 20, 1912 in Eden, Utah to Joseph and Margaret McBride Bachman.

He graduated from Ogden, Utah in 1930, Weber Junior College, Ogden in 1932, went on a mission to Mexico for the Mormon Church from 1932 to 1935. He then attended Utah State Agricultural College from 1935-1936, University of Utah, 1936-1937 and received his bachelor of science in 1939 from University of Chicago. Dr. Bachman received his medical degree in 1941 from Rush Medical School graduating summa cum laude. He interned at the Municipal Contagious Disease Hospital in Chicago from April 1941-July 1941 and St. Joseph's Hospital in Chicago from 1941-1942. Dr. Bachman served residencies in Obstetrics and Gynecology in St. Louis, Missouri at St. Louis Maternity Hospital (from July 1932 to April 1943, and Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana (from April 1943 to January 1944).

He returned to St. Louis and was with St. Louis City Hospital from January 1944 to October 1944. Dr. Bachman was an Instructor at Louisiana State University in 1943 in New Orleans and at Washington University Medical School in 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was in practice for a short time in Fontana, California at the Kaiser Steel Mill Hospital. He served a tour in the U. S. Navy sometime between 1944-46. From July 1946 to July 1947 he was resident at the Kapiolani Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Dr. Bachman became an associate of Drs. Batten and Bell from 1947 until 1950. He then joined the Fronk Clinic in Honolulu specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1951. In 1961 he left Fronk Clinic and set up his office at the Professional Center on South King Street and moved to the Ala Moana Building at 1441 Kapiolani Blvd. in 1962 for the practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was licensed in Illinois in 1942, California in 1944 and in Hawaii in 1947.

Dr. Bachman was a member of the International College of Surgeons, and the Honolulu Obstetrical and Gynecological Society serving as vice-president in 1950 and President 1951. He was also a member of Honolulu County Medical Society, Hawaii Medical Association, American Medical Association, Phi Beta Kappa and AOA. He was a recipient of the Lyman and Frear Scholarships.

In 1949 Dr. Bachman was Consultant with the Territorial Hospital in Kaneohe on Oahu. He was associated with St. Francis Hospital and Queen's Hospital as attending physician. He was Chief of Staff for Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital in 1956 and had served as Chief Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kahuku Community Hospital. Dr. Bachman was defendant in two high profile malpractice lawsuits which were ruled in his favor.

Dr. Bachman was married to Adele Margaret Mendonca in Honolulu on September 18, 1948. He was a member of the Kahala Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints and a Sunday School Teacher. Dr. Bachman died on December 17, 1989.
