Dr. Edward V. Avakian was born on August 8,1909. He graduated from the University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco in 1936. He was a resident at The Queen's Hospital, Honolulu, in 1939 and served as assistant plantation physician with the Pepeekeo Sugar Company in 1940. He was a member of the Hawaii National Guard and was called to active duty in January of 1942 and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He went to Hood River, Oregon until 1956 when he returned to Hawaii to succeed Dr. Fred Warshauer as plantation physician for the Hawaiian Pineapple Company on Lanai. By 1961 he was back on the mainland: Santa Barbara and later La Mesa, California where he eventually was in administration and non-patient care.
Dr. Avakian died in La Mesa, California on December 28, 1990.
