Dr. Sherrod Anderson was born on June 23, 1933. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas at Galveston in 1958. He interned at The Queen's Hospital, Honolulu, from 1958-59. He was a General Practitioner in Hawaii and associated with Dr. H.R. Egli in 1962, with offices in Waikiki and Ewa Beach. In 1964 he joined the Office of Aviation Medicine as a participant in the agency's residency program. In 1967-68, he earned a Masters of Public Health from the University of California, and in 1968-69 he trained at the Civil Aeromedical Research Institute, Oklahoma City. Sherrod was in Washington, D.C. in hospital work in 1969. He returned to Hawaii and was with the Public Health Service and the Federal Aviation Agency in 1973. He was Deputy Regional Flight Surgeon and spent some years in the Pacific. He served as the F.A.A.'s medical review officer (MRO) beginning in 1992. He contributed greatly to the development and management of the agency's employee substance abuse program.
Dr. Anderson became an expert on Southeast Asian tribal cultures before and during his time with the F.A.A. He and his wife, Mary Ann, had two sons: Aaron and Jon Erick. He died on October 23, 1999.
