In ninety years, Hawaii Medical Library (HML) has grown from a small county medical society library to Hawaii's largest medical library supporting health care professionals all over the state. Starting with a budget of $150.00 to subscribe to journals and no permanent home in 1914, HML now spends about $2,000,000 annually to purchase thousands of journals, books, and databases in print and electronic form and to provide a variety of services to ensure the delivery of and access to health information. More information about the history of HML may be found in the September/October 2003 issue of the Hawaii Medical Library Newsletter (available in the Mamiya Medical Heritage Center).
This exhibit celebrates HML's ninetieth anniversary. It gives special attention to ten important events in HML's past, the evolution and growth of the Library's collection and services, the Library's financial history, and the buildings that HML has occupied.
This web exhibit is based on an exhibit that was on display on the main floor of Hawaii Medical Library from October 2003 to March 2004.
