Dr. A. Morton of San Francisco conducted the first operation using spinal anesthesia in 1906. The procedure was performed in the Hospital's new Pauahi Wing.

Queen's contribution to the war effort   1942 - World War II
Stitching gas mask bags was one small part of Queen's participation in the war effort. This particular effort was done through the Hospital's Occupational Therapy Department.

 

Kinau Wing opens in 1945   Kinau Wing Opens, 1945
Kinau Wing was named after Alexander Liholiho's mother. Kinau was the daughter of Kamehameha I and half-sister of the second and third Kamehamehas. Kinau succeeded Kaahumanu as kuhina nui in 1832 and continued the policy of strictly enforcing laws inspired by missionary teaching.
