James Isaac Dowsett   James Isaac Dowsett
Trustee, 1867-98
Dowsett, the eldest son of Samuel James Dowsett, is said to be the first Anglo-Saxon child, not of missionary parentage, born in the islands. As a child, he was a playmate of the future kings Kamehameha IV, Kamehameha V, and Lunalilo. Dowsett became one of the leaders in developing the whaling trade in the islands. Investing in both ranches and sugar plantations, he imported Aberdeen Angus cattle to Hawaii. A member of the House of Nobles during the reigns of Kalakaua and Liliuokalani, he was a supporter of the Revolution of 1893. Dowsett served as a trustee for Queen's between 1867 and 1898, the year of his death.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Cleghorn arrived in Hawaii at the age of sixteen and rose to be a prosperous merchant. In 1870 he married Princess Miriam Likelike, sister of Kalakaua and Liliuokalani, to whom he served as an adviser to the crown. Father of Princess Kaiulani, he was a prominent figure in the revolutionary period from 1887 to 1895. His government roles included member of the Privy Council, the Board of Health, Board of Prison Inspectors, and the Board of Immigration. As Honolulu's first park commissioner, he designed Emma Park, Thomas Square, Kawaiahao Church grounds, Royal Mausoleum grounds and Kapiolani Park. He succeeded John Owen Dominis in 1891 as governor of the island of Oahu.

Trustee, 1867-1907
Born in Bremen, Germany, Schaefer served as the Secretary of the Board for forty years. Schaefer's notebook with tissue clippings of hospital correspondence is on file in the Queen's Historical Room.
