House Calls @ Queen's Medical Center:
HML's Onsite Consultation Service

The librarians from the Hawaii Medical Library offer free instruction and consultation services to the QMC physicians and employees.

The Hawaii Medical Library librarians will bring library instruction to your offices and labs on The Queen's Medical Center campus. They will provide you or your staff with customized instruction on finding information and using the extensive library resource tools. Each House Call is tailored to the requestor's individualized information needs.

If you have a computer classroom, we can teach a hands-on class at your site. We can also arrange for one-on-one or small group tutorials in your department.

House Calls Topic of the Month: Using HML's Digital Library

Imagine this: You're at home half-way around the island from HML and you realize that you need to read a chapter from Conn's Current Therapy and you need an article from the most recent issue of Heart & Lung. Is the only option to speed all the way to the Library in the hopes that you make it before closing?

No-the answer is HML's Digital Library. Did you know that at your fingertips are over 2,000 e-books, over 15,000 e-journals, and a wide range of databases covering the health sciences? Visit our web site to get started. The HML librarians would be glad to show you how to navigate the wealth of resources.

And don't forget! When accessing any of our licensed online resources from a remote location (not an HML or QMC computer), don't forget to log in at the upper right corner of our web page.

For more information, please call us at 547-4300 or e-mail us.

Other House Call topics may include the following:

Consider requesting an individual "consultation" to brush up on your database search skills or to identify the information resources available to you before beginning a research project, evidence-based medicine review, or grant proposal.

Call (547-4300) or the Librarians to schedule an individual consultation or instructional session for yourself or a group. Sessions usually last one hour. You will be contacted to discuss and arrange your House Call.
