What is a journal club?
A journal club is a group of people who convene in order to discuss articles of common interest. Some of the reasons that people participate in a journal club include to:
- Stay current on healthcare breakthroughs and practices
- Integrate current research findings into practice
- Disseminate knowledge
- Learn critical appraisal skills
- Review a particular topic
- Discuss controversies
- Serve as a "springboard" for research ideas
- Build a database of reviewed materials for a group
- Provide a social forum outside of the usual working environment
- Provide a vehicle for honing teaching skills
How can I get involved?
To join an existing journal club, go to the Nursing Research Council website on QMC's Intranet for details about who to contact. If you are interested in starting a new journal club, contact rlatimer@queens.org.
How can I find the contacts for existing journal clubs?
Go to the Nursing Research Council web site on QMC's Intranet for the existing journal clubs and the contact persons.
How can I submit a new reading?
Fill out the Submit or Remove a Reading Assignment form. You will be informed when the reading is posted.
How can I retract a citation from the current or older reading lists?
Fill out the Submit or Remove a Reading Assignment form. You will be informed when the reading is removed.
After clicking on the article title on the journal club page, how do I get to the full-text?
Clicking on the article title will open up the HML Linker page. Click here for instructions on getting the full-text.
What if the article I want is not available in full-text?
If the article is not available locally, HML can order it for your journal club. Simply fill in this request form and once received, the article will be linked to your journal club page. When requesting, please let us know that you are making the request for your journal club in the additional information box at the bottom of the page.
